What is athlete's foot?

Athlete's foot is a fungal infection affecting the feet which are caused by an overgrowth of the fungi, tinea pedalis interdigitalis. The symptoms of athlete's foot include dry, flaking, cracked skin that can become sore and itchy.

Athlete’s foot is common and can be very contagious. You are more likely to catch and become infected with athlete’s foot if you often have wet or sweaty feet, which is why it is named athletes foot.
