What is TCP Antiseptic Liquid?

TCP Antiseptic Liquid is aimed at soothing pain and fighting infection at the same time. A versatile topical treatment that can be used to combat a number of common issues, TCP can provide relief from throat infections and mouth ulcers, aid the recovery of cuts, grazes and stings, and reduce the appearance of spots and pimples.

How does TCP work?

TCP is an antiseptic. The role of an antiseptic is to help fight infection by preventing the build-up of harmful microorganisms. As such, antiseptics can be used to treat wounds such as cuts, grazes and stings, keeping infection at bay during the healing process. They can also be used to treat throat and mouth infections by preventing the growth of microorganisms that cause infection, inflammation and pain.

How do I use TCP?

TCP Liquid is a versatile product that has a number of uses. How you use the product will depend on what you’re using it to treat.

For relief of sore throat symptoms, including those associated with colds and flu:

  • Dilute with 5 parts water.
  • Gargle twice daily (DO NOT swallow).

For the treatment of common mouth ulcers:

  • Dab undiluted onto the affected area 3 times a day.
  • If symptoms persist for more than 14 days, consult your GP or dentist.

For treating cuts, grazes, bites and stings:

  • Dilute with an equal amount of water.
  • Apply freely to the affected area.

For spots, boils and pimples:

  • Dab undiluted onto the affected area every 4 hours.
  • Do not cover the area.

Who is TCP suitable for?

TCP is suitable for adults and children over the age of 16 years. You should consult your doctor before using TCP to treat a child under 16.

TCP Ingredients

The active ingredients in TCP are Halogenated Phenols 0.68% w/v and Phenol 0.175% w/v. TCP also contains: Glycerol, concentrated phosphoric acid, E104 (quinoline yellow) and water.

TCP side effects

In normal use, you should not suffer any unwanted side effects when using TCP for any purpose. However, if you do notice any unusual side effects or symptoms, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist.

TCP warnings

You should not use TCP Antiseptic Liquid if you have an allergic skin condition or you are sensitive to any of the ingredients listed below.

You should never swallow TCP. If you swallow large amounts of the liquid, drink plenty of water. If you feel unwell afterwards, you should seek immediate medical advice.

If your symptoms persist for more than a few days, you should speak to your GP or seek an alternative treatment.

Do not store TCP Liquid above 30ºC. Keep the bottle out of the reach and sight of children.
