Like all medicines, there is a chance that Dymista nasal spray may cause side effects.
This doesn’t mean that everyone who uses this effective hay fever treatment will experience Dymista side effects.
The majority of users will have a very positive experience with this nasal spray, and only a very small percentage will experience adverse effects. However, it’s always a good idea to find out about the possible side effects of any new medicine or medical treatment, so you know when to speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you encounter any problems.
Below is a list of known Dymista side effects, including their frequency:
Very common side effects (may affect more than 1 in 10 people):
Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):
Uncommon side effects ( may affect up to 1 in 100 people):
Rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people):
Very rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people):
Side effects with unknown frequency (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):
Please note that the list of Dymista side effects above is not exhaustive — other Dymista side effects may occur that are not listed above.
You can consult the Dymista Patient Information Leaflet that is enclosed with your nasal spray if you need more information.
If you experience any adverse effects that you are concerned about — whether they are listed above or not — speak to your doctor or pharmacist. They will be able to advise you further.
Everyone’s bodies are different, and it is possible for individuals to react differently to the same medicine. However, there are some Dymista side effects which are more common than others.
Generally, the side effects you are more likely to experience when using Dymista — if any occur at all — are nosebleeds, slight irritation of the nose and throat, and an unpleasant taste or smell just after use.
Nosebleeds (known medically as epistaxis) are the most common Dymista side effect, affecting over one in 10 users. These are usually minor. You are more likely to experience nosebleeds from Dymista if you use the nasal spray for long periods of time.
If you are concerned about any of these more common side effects of Dymista nasal spray at all, or your symptoms persist or get worse, seek medical advice.
Serious side effects from using Dymista nasal spray are rare. Less than one in 10,000 people experience a serious side effect when using fluticasone-based nasal sprays such as Dymista.
Speak to your GP straight away if any of the below occur:
These more serious Dymista side effects will not be experienced by most users.
If you experience any of the above, or any other serious side effects which are severe, painful, or concerning, stop taking Dymista and consult your doctor immediately.
It is very rare to have a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to Dymista nasal spray.
However, it is possible and can happen to a very small number of users. This is fluticasone, the active ingredient in Dymista nasal spray.
These are the symptoms and signs to look out for that indicate a serious allergic reaction:
Call 999 or go to A&E immediately if you experience any of the above signs and symptoms.
This must be treated as an emergency and you should seek medical attention immediately.
There is no evidence that Dymista can cause weight gain, and according to the Patient Information Leaflet list of Dymista side effects, weight gain is not a known side effect of Dymista.
It is not listed as a side effect at all — even as a rare one, or one of unknown frequency (which normally means that a side effect is so unusual or unheard of that its frequency cannot be estimated from the available data).
However, there may be very rare side effects that occur which do not appear on the official Dymista side effects list. Weight gain could be one of them — prolonged use of steroids can result in weight gain. However, this is incredibly unlikely to occur when the steroid comes in the form of a nasal spray rather than oral steroid tablets.
Speak to your doctor if you are worried about unusual weight gain and you suspect it may be related to regular and prolonged use of Dymista.
‘Dymista anxiety' is not a thing. Dymista nasal spray does not cause anxiety, and anxiety or any other psychiatric disorders are not listed as side effects of this medication.
However, a very small number of nasal spray users may experience certain side effects which mimic the physical symptoms of anxiety, such as a fast heart rate, rapid breathing, discomfort in the chest area, dizziness, feeling sick, blurred vision and increased sweating.
This can be unpleasant for those affected by an anxiety disorder or panic attacks.
This is very unusual, and the side effects we have listed above only affect up to one in 10,000 people (or much fewer).
If this is the case for you, you may wish to look at Dymista alternatives to help treat hay fever or other allergies.
Dymista nasal spray is predominantly used to relieve seasonal allergy (hay fever) symptoms in the nose. This includes a runny, stuffy or blocked nose, congestion, itching, sneezing, and itchy, red eyes.
Post-nasal drip is another type of symptom which may occur because of allergies such as hay fever.
When you experience an allergic reaction, your body produces more mucus than usual, which can create a runny nose. This mucus may run down the back of your nose to your throat — this is called a post-nasal drip.
Dymista can help to relieve this allergy symptom too.
Dymista is a prescription-only steroid nasal spray which is used to treat the symptoms of allergic rhinitis (hay fever). It is an effective and popular treatment choice which works quickly to reduce inflammation in the nose and relieve irritation and allergy symptoms such as congestion and itching.
Like all medicines, there is a small chance of experiencing Dymista side effects should you choose to take this treatment.
However, Dymista nasal spray side effects are unusual and tend to be very mild. The most common side effects of this nasal spray are minor nosebleeds, affecting over one in 10 users. Other more common side effects include headaches, an unpleasant taste and smell, and irritation or dryness of the nose or throat.
Serious side effects are very rare and will not be experienced by most users. If you notice any signs and symptoms of more serious side effects, such as damage to the skin and mucous membrane within the nose, sores inside your nose or changes in your eyesight, speak to your doctor immediately.
Likewise, if you are concerned at all about any known or unknown Dymista side effects, speak to your doctor or pharmacist for guidance.
Dymista is considered an extremely safe and effective treatment, and one that is often recommended by medical professionals.
