Female Testosterone Test information
Total Testosterone Blood Test Kit
The Independent Pharmacy offers a home finger prick blood test kit for total testosterone, SHBG (Sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG))and free androgen index (FAI). Send your blood sample to our affiliated lab for accurate total testosterone results.
How does the test work?
When you request your test kit online, it will be dispatched the same day (before 4 pm) on your selected delivery service. The test requires a small blood sample, which should be taken from your finger using the single-use lancets into the sample bottle provided. You should perform the test and send it off as soon as possible. The test is best completed in the morning, preferably before 10 am, and posted the same day to ensure the blood arrives in the best condition for testing.
The test kit includes full instructions that detail how to take a blood sample and how to prepare it to be posted to the lab. Please ensure that you read and follow these instructions fully.
How quickly do I get the results?
Testosterone results are normally available two to three working days after posting your sample to the lab. You will be emailed to inform you that your results are available by logging into your online account.
What if I need extra information?
You can contact our healthcare support team by email or telephone for further advice if you need any help understanding your results.
What if my results are low?
If you are post-menopausal and struggling with your sex drive, or still have menopausal symptoms despite being on an optimal dose of oestrogen you should get tested to make sure the treatment is safe and suitable for you.
You may have symptoms like reduced sex drive, difficulty achieving orgasm or lack of interest in sex.
We can provide testosterone treatment to improve your sex drive if you:
Are over 45 years old
Are post-menopausal, which means you’ve not had a period for 12 months in a row
Are currently using a Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) gel or patch, and have had the dose optimised
What if my results are normal but I have symptoms?
We would suggest that you make an appointment with your GP for further consultation if your testosterone levels are within the normal range and you have issues with your sex drive as this could be caused by other factors.
