Ovesse Cream Information
What is Ovesse?
Ovesse 1mg cream is used to relieve vaginal dryness and irritation (vaginal atrophy) caused by hormonal changes during or after menopause. It provides the hormone estriol, a form of oestrogen, to alleviate these symptoms.
How does estriol work?
During and after menopause, the body's natural oestrogen levels decrease, leading to symptoms like vaginal dryness and irritation. Estriol helps to:
- Stimulate Tissue Growth: Estriol promotes the growth and maintenance of the vaginal and urogenital tissues, which helps to restore their natural elasticity and thickness.
- Increase Blood Flow: It enhances blood flow to the vaginal area, improving lubrication and reducing dryness and discomfort.
- Maintain pH Balance: Estriol helps maintain the natural acidic pH of the vagina, which is essential for preventing infections and maintaining overall vaginal health.
- Enhance Mucosal Function: By improving the health and function of the mucosal lining, estriol helps to alleviate symptoms of atrophy and irritation.
Overall, estriol works by replenishing oestrogen levels in the targeted area, thus mitigating the symptoms associated with decreased oestrogen production during menopause.
How long does estriol take to work?
Typically, when women begin using Estriol Cream for vaginal dryness, they apply it once daily for 2 to 3 weeks. Most women experience significant improvement in their condition within this period.
If you do not notice sufficient relief after 4 weeks, you should consult a doctor for further guidance.
How to use Ovesse
Ovesse comes in a pack together with a clear plastic applicator.
Use the applicator to apply the cream in the vagina. A good time to do this is before going to bed.
The applicator has a red ring marked on the body. Fill the applicator up to the red ring mark with Ovesse vaginal cream to get the correct dose.
- Remove the cap from the tube and turn the cap upside down. Then use the sharp point to open the tube.
- Screw the end of the applicator onto the tube.
- Squeeze the tube to fill the applicator with the cream up to the red ring mark (the plunger will stop at the red ring mark).
- Unscrew the applicator from the tube and put the cap back on the tube. To apply the cream, lie down, put the end of the applicator deep into your vagina and slowly push the plunger all the way in.
Cleaning the applicator
- After use, pull the plunger out of the barrel.
- Wash the plunger and barrel in hand hot, soapy water.
- Do not use detergents. Rinse well with clean water afterwards.
- Do not put the applicator in boiling water. Ovesse is easy to remove with water. Speak to your pharmacist if you experience any difficulties with using the vaginal applicator.
