Scholl Fungal Nail Treatment Information
What is Scholl Fungal Nail Treatment?
Scholl Fungal Nail Treatment is a 2-step preventative and treatment option for mild fungal nail infections. This easy to use liquid is applied directly to the infected nails, where it rapidly penetrates through the surface enabling it to target the source of infection.
Each all-in-one bottle is provided with an easy-to-use applicator brush and 5 disposable nail files, providing noticeable improvements to the condition of your nails within just 2 weeks.
What is Scholl Fungal Nail Treatment used for?
Scholl Fungal Nail Treatment effectively prevents and treats mild fungal nail infections. The severity of fungal nail infections is categorised by how much of the nail is infected.
A mild fungal infection will typically only affect the outer edges and sides of 1-2 of your nails. If you have an infection that is moderate or severe and is infected in a wider area or more than 1-2 nails you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist to discuss other treatment options.
What is a fungal nail infection?
A fungal nail infection most commonly affects the toenails but occasionally also affects the fingernails. Fungal nail infections do not usually cause discomfort or pain and are easily treated especially if treatment is commenced when the infection is mild.
Fungal nail infections are most commonly caused by the same fungi that cause athlete's foot. The fungi causes the infected nail to become discoloured, brittle, thickened or distorted. If left untreated the nail may be destroyed and the surrounding skin can also become infected.
Several different factors can increase your chances of developing a fungal nail infection including living in a humid environment and smoking. For more information around advice and treatment please see our Fungal Nail Infection Treatment & Advice page.
How does Scholl Fungal Nail Treatment work?
Each bottle of Scholl Fungal Nail Treatment comes with 5 disposable nail files. It is scientifically proven that nails that have had their surface filed prior to treatment are 8 times more likely to respond well to treatment.
The nail lacquer is applied to the field surface of the infected nails using the applicator brush, allowing it to be quickly absorbed. The liquid penetrates the nail changing the environment so that it is no longer hospitable to the invading fungus.
Scholl Fungal Nail Treatment should continue to be applied weekly for up to 9 months, while the infected nail grows out. This is to protect your nails against recurrences of the infection developing.
How quickly does Scholl Fungal Nail Treatment work?
Scholl Fungal Nail Treatment is a fast-acting treatment for mild fungal nail infections. When it is applied daily, results can be seen within just 2 weeks of treatment.
Nails do however, grow very slowly and so can take months for the infected nail to completely grow out to be replaced with a healthy nail. You should continue applying this treatment weekly for 9 months to prevent becoming reinfected.

Scholl Fungal Nail Treatment FAQs
Amorolfine nail lacquer is a topical application used to treat fungal nail infections (onychomycosis). The solution works by killing the fungi that cause fungal nail infection. Amorolfine can be applied to both finger and toenails.
Yes – Amorolfine medicated nail paint treats fungal nail infections like onychomycosis by stopping the growth of the fungi responsible for the infection allowing the infection to grow out with the nail. It can be applied to both finger and toenails.
Amorolfine should be applied directly to the infected nail(s) once or twice a week, or as otherwise directed by your doctor.
The solution can be applied anywhere on an infected nail, so long as the infection has not spread to the lunula, which is the white area at the base of the nail.
One 5ml bottle contains enough solution for 150 applications. Because amorolfine only needs to be applied 1-2 times a week, one 5ml bottle should last the full duration of treatment. This is assuming you are treating 1-2 nails for up to 12 months.
Treatment should be continued until the affected nail(s) are completely free of infection. On average, fingers nails require up to 6 months of treatment, whilst toenails can take between 9 and 12 months.
Try not to be discouraged during the initial stages of treatment if there are no signs of visible improvement. Healthy nails only grow about 2mm every month so it can take for results to show through.
The nail files and alcohol swabs should be discarded after each use. However, the applicators can be reused, providing they have been wiped with the alcohol swab prior to use.
Sadly, there is no data regarding the use of amorolfine during pregnancy. Also, there is no information on whether amorolfine passes into human breast milk. For these reasons, amorolfine should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. For further advice please consult your doctor.
Amorolfine is a clinically proven fungal nail treatment. Because the solution is only applied 1-2 times a week, one 5ml bottle can potentially last for up to 12 months. Most cheaper alternatives are designed for daily use, which means you will need to buy multiple bottles to cover the same length of treatment. As a result, you end up spending more.
A fungal nail infection occurs when fungus infects the nail bed. This causes several noticeable symptoms that make the condition easy to identify. Firstly, the nail can become discoloured, turning yellow or brown. Secondly, the texture of the nail can change, making it thick and brittle. In some cases, the nail can also separate from the nail bed.
Generally there are not many side effects associated with using Amorolfine nail polish. One side effect can be a burning sensation around the skin where the varnish has been applied. If you experience any other unusual side effects, contact a doctor or pharmacist.
