What Is Naseptin Nasal Cream?
Naseptin Nasal Cream is a dual-action antibacterial medication that is applied directly to the nostrils to treat nasal infections. This treatment is suitable for adults, children, and pregnant and breastfeeding women. It contains two active ingredients that combine to eradicate staphylococcal bacteria — the bacteria which causes nasal infections — and treat and prevent infections in the nose.
Naseptin can also help to prevent frequent nosebleeds and reduce crusting in the nasal cavity, which can lead to further nose picking and sometimes bleeding.
How does Naseptin Nasal Cream work?
Naseptin contains the active ingredients chlorhexidine dihydrochloride and neomycin sulphate:
- Chlorhexidine is an antimicrobial agent which helps to kill and stop the growth of bacterial, fungal, and viral organisms.
- Neomycin is an antibiotic which is effective against a wide range of bacteria, including staphylococci.
These ingredients combine to kill the bacteria that cause nose infections, meaning Naspetin is able to treat and prevent infection in the nose quickly and effectively.
How long does it take for Naseptin to work?
The time it takes for Naseptin to work can vary from person to person and depends on the severity of the infection. In general, you may start to see some improvement within a few days of using Naseptin, but it's important to complete the full course of treatment as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
What alternative options are there to using Naseptin
If you're looking for alternatives, your doctor may consider other antibiotic nasal preparations or recommend different classes of antibiotics, depending on the specific type of infection and its severity. Some alternatives to Naseptin may include:
- Mupirocin or fucidin nasal ointment: These antibiotic ointments is commonly used to treat nasal infections, particularly those caused by Staphylococcus aureus, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
- Oral antibiotics: In some cases, oral antibiotics may be prescribed to treat nasal infections. Common oral antibiotics for nasal infections include amoxicillin, cephalexin, or doxycycline
- Topical antiseptic solutions: In certain situations, your healthcare provider might recommend using a saline nasal spray or an antiseptic solution to help manage nasal infections
It's important to note that the choice of antibiotic or alternative treatment depends on the specific bacteria causing the infection and other individual factors.
